Our Story, Staff, & Beliefs

About Us

It all started when…

The first service was held on June 1, 1986. We began praying for a permanent place to meet and a Pastor to lead us.

On August 9th, two months and eight days later we purchased the building on Highway 70 East that had previously been Horner’s Antiques.  Sunday, September 14th, 1986, we held our first service there and began having speakers who were interested in Pastoring.

Pastor Tim Daniel preached for us on January 25th and February 8, 1987.   We felt Pastor Tim was the answer to our prayers and he was invited back on Wednesday night February 11th.  His message was entitled “Spiritual Leaders” and the text was Nehemiah 1:1. We had prayer and voted 100% to call Tim Daniel as Pastor of New Testament Baptist Church.

The loan on the first building was for twelve years; in six years, nine months and two days, on July 2, 1993, the note was paid in full.

On March 13, 1997, we purchased 13.54 acres of property on Neuse Road, with plans to build a larger facility to accommodate our growing church family.

On March 12, 1998, we held our first Planning Committee Meeting.  We wanted to plan a new church building that would be oriented to the most effective way of preaching and teaching the Word.

The Ground Breaking Ceremony was held on March 19, 2000.

Eight years and one day from the time we paid for the old building, we held our first service (July 1, 2001) at our new building located at 126 Neuse Road, Kinston, NC.

Pastor Tim and Karen Daniel

I am thankful God has allowed me to pastor this great group of people for thirty-six years. Our congregation is made up of people who love the Lord, and evidence it in their service to Him.

Thank you for visiting our website.

We hope you will take the next step in being our guest during one of our services!

Our Beliefs

  • We believe in the plenary, verbal inspiration and authority of the Scriptures. The King James Version of the Bible shall be the official translation used by the Church.

  • We believe in the Triune God: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

  • We believe in the deity, virgin birth, and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ.

  • We believe in salvation by grace, not by works. The conditions of salvation are repentance and faith. Men are justified by faith alone and are accounted righteous before God only through the merit of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We believe in a literal heaven and a literal hell.

We believe in the saving and cleansing blood of Jesus Christ.

We believe in the eternal security of the believer.

  • We believe in the local church as God's means of spreading the Gospel in this age. The two ordinances of the church are water baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper. The two offices of the church are the pastor and deacons.

  • We believe in upholding a strong stand against ecumenicalism, modernism, liberalism, neo-orthodoxy, neo-evangelism, easy-believism, and the charismatic movement.

We believe that all the saved should live in such a manner as not to bring reproach upon their Savior and Lord; and, that separation from all religious apostasy, all worldly and sinful pleasures, practices and associations is commanded of God.

We believe that abortion is the selfish taking of an unborn human life. Life begins at conception, and therefore, an unborn child is a living person.

We believe God established marriage between one man and one woman as the one permissible place for sexual activity.

We believe God has given the Church the Great Commission to preach the Gospel to every nation and soul.

  • We believe in the imminent and pretribulational rapture of the Church.

We believe in the visible, personal, and premillenial return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
